The Most Frequently Asked Questions About Botox Injections

One of the most commonly requested aesthetic treatments is Botox. Botox works beneath the surface of your skin to reduce your wrinkles and fine lines while preventing more from developing.

We offer Botox treatment at Aspire Aesthetics in Hendersonville, TN. Find out more about Botox injections by reading these frequently asked questions.

What Is Botox?

Botox cosmetic is an injectable aesthetic treatment that can resolve wrinkles, fine lines, and creasing. Botox interacts with the nerves and muscles in your face to make signs of aging less visible while stopping more from forming. The result is a smoother, more youthful complexion.

Why Do I Have Wrinkles and Facial Creasing?

Wrinkles, fine lines, and facial creasing are some of the most noticeable signs of aging. These things start to form in your late 20s and become more prominent throughout your 30s and 40s. While many people have wrinkles and creases, they may not understand why these age-related changes have formed or how to prevent them.

The factors behind wrinkles and fine lines include collagen loss, decreased elasticity, and continuous facial movement. As you age, all three of these things work together to form wrinkling, creasing, and lines on your face.

Lower collagen stores and decreased elasticity in your skin make it more susceptible to constant movement. Every time you smile, laugh, or frown, it contributes to the formation of wrinkles and lines.

How Do Neuromodulators Work?

Botox uses a process called neuromodulation to reduce wrinkles and prevent them from forming in the future. Neuromodulators contain chemicals called neurotoxins, which interact directly with your nerves and muscles. For example, Botox contains a neurotoxin called botulinum toxin A.

Injected beneath your facial skin, botulinum toxin A temporarily paralyzes your facial nerves and muscles to limit movement. Once this movement is restricted, it helps stop new wrinkles and creases from developing. It also helps your skin appear smoother and tighter, and existing lines and wrinkles become less obvious.

Do I Need to Prepare for Botox Treatment?

There’s no preparation necessary when it comes to getting Botox. On the day of your session, wash your face with a gentle cleanser to remove any debris. Do not apply makeup or other topical products.

When you arrive for your appointment, we may perform an additional cleansing to ensure that your skin is free of any bacteria before you receive the injections.

What Is a Botox Session Like?

One of the reasons that Botox treatment is popular is because of its simplicity. Botox is a non-surgical, outpatient procedure, and it typically takes as little as 15 to 20 minutes to complete.

When you arrive for your Botox session, you will be able to sit back and relax comfortably in one of our spa chairs. Your head will be tilted back and upward to give us full access to your facial skin.

Once you are comfortable, we will apply a topical anesthetic to your skin. This prevents you from feeling the Botox injections when we place them. After your anesthetic has taken effect, we will make marks on the areas of your skin where the injections will be administered. (We’ll remove these marks when your session is over.)

We can place your injections around your mouth, eyes, eyebrows, nose, or forehead, depending on where your wrinkles and fine lines are the most prominent. When we have given all of the necessary injections, you will be able to return home and resume your normal activities.

Our only post-procedure recommendation is that you do not apply direct pressure on the areas where we placed your Botox cosmetic injections.

How Long Will My Botox Results Last?

Before seeking Botox treatment, you should know that Botox injections are not permanent. Your Botox results will last about three to six months. Around 12 weeks after your treatment, you will notice the neurotoxin results gradually wearing off.

Eventually, full movement will return to your skin and any existing wrinkles you had could re-emerge. Once the neuromodulator effects have completely worn off, you will be able to repeat your Botox treatment.

Am I a Good Candidate for Botox Treatment?

Two groups of people make the best candidates for Botox injections. The first group consists of adults with mature skin. These patients have seen an increase in wrinkles and fine lines due to collagen loss and a lack of elasticity. For these clients, Botox can reduce existing wrinkles and prevent more from forming.

The second group benefiting from Botox injections is made up of adults who want to stop wrinkles from developing. These patients are typically in their mid-20s to early 30s. If you get Botox at this age, it can subdue excessive facial movement and prevent wrinkles from developing in the first place.

The best way to confirm that you are a good candidate for Botox treatment is by scheduling a consultation with our team. We will evaluate your signs of aging and go over your aesthetic goals to determine whether Botox is the best course of action to treat your concerns.

Neuromodulators are not the ideal option for every patient. If we find that another treatment would be a better fit, we will discuss it during your consultation.
