Some of the most popular procedures in the cosmetic industry are dermal filler injections. Dermal fillers add volume beneath the skin, resolving age-related changes and enhancing your facial features.
At Aspire Aesthetics, we offer various types of dermal filler injections. To learn more about dermal fillers, check out some of the most common questions that people have about this treatment.
What Are Dermal Fillers?
Dermal fillers are injectable cosmetic treatments designed to increase volume beneath your skin. Many people struggle with volume loss under their cheeks and around their eyes as they age, and dermal fillers can help reverse that process. Dermal fillers can also accentuate certain facial features to create a more pronounced look.
Why Do I Have Volume Loss in My Skin?
Volume loss is a common age-related change that occurs within the skin.
In your 30s and 40s, you may begin to see your face lose some of its youthful volume. Your cheeks may appear saggy or droopy. You may see volume loss around your eyes, making them look more sullen.
These changes are the result of a decrease in collagen and hyaluronic acid, two naturally occurring components that make skin look youthful and supple.
What Can Dermal Fillers Do?
Dermal fillers can correct age-related volume loss. Many fillers contain synthetic hyaluronic acid, which boosts volume beneath your skin. When injected into the cheeks or around the eyes, fillers can add a youthful fullness to your face.
Fillers can also smooth out minor wrinkles and fine lines by adding subtle volume around the mouth, nose, or eyes.
Another popular use for dermal fillers is facial enhancement, which makes use of products like lip fillers and cheek fillers.
If you have thin lips, lip injections can enhance your mouth and make your lips appear plumper. When you have soft cheekbones or a weak jawline, fillers can add volume to these areas to strengthen them and create a more contoured look.
Are There Different Brands of Dermal Fillers?
There are numerous brands of dermal fillers that address a wide variety of concerns. Two of the most popular dermal filler brands we offer are Juvéderm and Restylane.
Juvéderm
Juvéderm is a line of dermal fillers containing synthetic hyaluronic acid, which leads to increased volume under your skin. Products in the Juvéderm line include lip fillers, cheek fillers, and other fillers for facial enhancement.
Juvéderm sets itself apart from other filler brands because of its longevity. Some fillers in the Juvéderm line can last as long as nine months to one year.
Restylane
Much like Juvéderm, Restylane is a line of dermal fillers with synthetic hyaluronic acid to increase volume under the skin. The Restylane line of products includes lip injections, cheek fillers, and more.
Restylane is the first brand to develop a product specifically for use on the hands to resolve wrinkling and loose skin.
How Do I Prepare for Dermal Fillers?
There’s no preparation required to receive dermal fillers. All you need to do before your appointment is to make sure that your face is clean and free of debris.
We prefer that you do not apply cosmetics or other skin care products to your skin before your treatment. We may use a mild cleanser to wash your skin before placing your injections. The cleanser will remove any bacteria or debris that remains.
What Is Dermal Filler Treatment Like?
Dermal filler treatment is a simple and quick process, which makes it a popular choice for so many people. With dermal fillers, you can transform your appearance in as little as 20 minutes without any surgical intervention.
During a dermal filler appointment, you will be asked to sit back in a comfortable spa chair with your head reclined upward. This makes it easier for us to access all areas of your face.
Once you are relaxed, we will apply a topical anesthetic to your facial skin to prevent you from feeling the filler injections as we administer them. After the anesthetic has taken effect, we usually make marks in the areas where we intend to place your injections. (We will wipe off these marks after your treatment is complete.)
Next, we’ll begin to place your filler injections. Most individuals receive injections in the lips or cheeks, around the eyes, or surrounding the mouth.
When your dermal filler session is done, you will be able to leave immediately. There’s no recovery or downtime required after a dermal filler treatment.
We do recommend that you avoid direct pressure on your injection sites. Applying too much pressure in these areas could break down the filler and cause it to spread.
Will My Dermal Fillers Be Permanent?
It’s important to know that dermal fillers are not permanent. Your results will last anywhere from three months to one year. The exact duration of your filler results will depend on where they are placed and the brand of filler you receive.
You will eventually start to see your volume decrease as the filler dissolves beneath your skin. When the filler is completely dissolved, you can have additional injections administered.
